Trauma-Informed Care
Our interventions and philosophy are deeply informed by trauma-informed practices and research.
Traumatic experiences and adverse childhood events (ACES) leave their imprint on our neurology, physiology, and relationships. Although there are very individualized differences in the extent of that impact, chronic and/or severe trauma has lasting and destructive effects on all. Our minds, hearts, and bodies are not created to tolerate such severe levels of stress and devastation and survival comes at a cost.
Maladaptive stress and survival responses may include such psychological processes as dissociation/emotional numbness, denial, phobias/fear and avoidance, overcontrolling tendencies, substance abuse/addiction, attachment disorders, self-harming/suicidal behaviors and anxiety/Posttraumatic Stress Disorders.
We utilize evidence-based interventions and techniques including EMDR to help those suffering from the crippling aftermath of trauma develop coping skills, reprocess the reality of trauma and liberate themselves from harmful, maladaptive coping reactions.
